Content creation used to be a simpler process, but as time has gone on there are so many types of content that need to be created to effectively promote your business. Also, the web is continually asking for more. Where to begin? How much content is enough? Does my business really need to be creating content?
The answer to all of these questions is yes (LOL). Content creation has become an essential part of online marketing, and if you’re not creating content then you’re falling behind your competition. However, that doesn’t mean content creation needs to be difficult or time-consuming. There are a few simple techniques you can use to make the process easier and more streamlined.
The first step is listing out your services. All of your content should be focused around your business, the bottom line is this is how you make your money. When you know what your business offers, it becomes much easier to create content around those services. For example, if you’re a web design company then you can write blog posts about how to choose the right web designer, or tips for creating an effective website.
The next step is figure out what your prospective clients are looking for, what questions do they ask? This is content that will help your prospective clients make a purchase decision, and it can be very valuable. The key here is to put yourself in the shoes of the customer. What information would you want? A simple tip on how to do this is to have conversations with family or colleagues that work outside of your niche, they will help you determine what the average person does not understand about your business or what they usually need help with. This content is going to be very helpful and can take out a lot of the guesswork when it comes time for content creation.
The third step in making content creation simpler and easier is writing about things that matter, rather than what you feel like writing about. We all have topics we want to blog about because they interest us, but that doesn’t mean they will be interesting to your audience. When it comes time to write content, think about what your target market is looking for and focus on those topics. This also includes using keywords in your content, which we’ll discuss more later.
The fourth step is creating a content calendar. This may seem like overkill but when you do it will help you plan out your content ahead of time and make sure you’re creating enough content to stay relevant online.
The next step is to come up with a content strategy. What type of content are you going to create? Videos, blog posts, images? The content you create should be varied and interesting in order to keep your audience coming back for more.
Once you have this content outlined then all that’s left to do is create it! Content creation doesn’t need to be difficult or time-consuming. Just remember to be organized, think about what your content should say and who it’s aimed at, then just write!
